Three points. 1 EVs can be and are programmed to charge off peak. The grid can easily support US or UK more than 50% EV. 2. Coal plants in US are shutting down before end of life because solar wind and battery are cheaper, even with the extra cost of capital. That is happening with or without EVs. 3. The cost to build trend is to lower cost batteries, about 15% every time production doubles. It is technically possible to sell an EV with about the same specs for power as a Honda Civic for under $20k. However it will take some time to build out the production capacity so next 5 years or so. EV growth at 50% per year will add in low cost options in about 5 years. Not sure what your point was? If you like the price and performance of an EV buy it. The grid capacity won’t be an issue and by the way the expected life of the lower cost LFP battery sold today is more than 1 million miles. So if you want a safer bet used EV buy that. The higher performance batteries typicality last more the 300,000 miles. You can test their health before buying.
