The semiconductors that convert AC to DC and step up the voltage are amazing. These were not available to Edison and Tesla/Westinghouse so AC won for distribution and now we have 110 volts AC in our homes. But maybe we should have 9 volts DC as so much of what we do is powered by low voltage DC, including lights!

Just playing around. By the way Edison also did not understand the math used to model AC. Thanks Steinmetz!
