The NIO production of solid state batteries suggests a path to make them cheaper starts now. So with increased volume cost can be reduced by engineering solutions to yield issues. They are expensive, I think they rent them currently.
The Renault prototype at this link is cool if the price has a fuel saving payback in 3 years. Finding ways the increase the pace of conversion is really interesting. For light vehicles that pace is not likely to change much. But for commercial vehicles if there is a positive IRR end of life for a diesel engine could come sooner.
