The big miss in this article is continuous improvement in wind solar and batteries as engineering improves price performance which drives up demand which increases engineering. Some minor points- the points about wasteful consumer behavior is true but not likely to change. The government could, by law limit the number sold. Oh wait, sort of attempted with half hearted MPG goals. Last point, 10% of vehicles consume 30% of gas (delivery vans, police Uber and such). EV has a lower cost of ownership plus 7 year life compared to 4 for gas hybrids. Focus on this segment first as it is driven by cost of ownership and accounts for a large chuck of pollution. Note that longer life in this segment means CO2 from production is =. Final point, the EV sales drive battery development that could also be used for grid storage, which drives down cost of wind and solar (using EV battery part time grid storage). The last point offsets a part of wasteful consumer spending of buying want you want compared to what you need.
