Some counter points. EVs with LFP batteries use zero cobalt and nickel. As demand for EVs grow more investment in battery tech for cheaper better products. Example Lyten.com.
EVs can offer vehicle to grid features to expand electric power by renewable energy.
Of course buying hummer is gross but that is small numbers Tesla 3 and Y is a good start but soon 2025 and 2026 the next wave of EV low cost and lower production CO2.
But sure if drive a little keep your car. Best if limited production of EVs goes to 20% of vehicles that account for 50% of gas and diesel consumption, at least for next 10 years or so.

China sells $11,000 EVs internally. Could US and EU vendors offer the same in a few years? Sure, of course US and EU don’t want to lose jobs nor become dependent on China for major blocks of transportation.

My guess is continued progress in battery tech means in about 20 years gas and diesel consumption for light vehicles and heavy trucks will go to near zero. So less oil profit for Russian and Middle East terrorists.

Encourage EV investment, avoid yet another Middle East war over oil. Encourage investment in renewable energy, move Russian and Middle jobs to US and EU to install and maintain solar and wind electric power.
