Oops. What about the cost of these higher density batteries. Toyota hinted that initially these specs would be for premium priced models. Not saying these are not great achievements. In fact perhaps short term important for heavy trucks.
However for the bulk of units sales price is really important. Also most people don’t need more then about 267 miles range. At least that is the bulk of sales in terms of numbers.
Three firms recently announced new production this year on improved batteries. CATL LFP follow on for 435 range and 250 miles charge in 10 minutes. Not in the press but likely this is aimed at volume sales. It likely will take a couple years to become ubiquitous.
Lyten introduced, started production, of a Li Sulfur batttery with a unique carbon structure offer 2x the power density of todays best. It is being sold to applications like military drones but clearly their sampling by EV industry is underway so maybe 2 or 3 years. Amprius have a similar jump in performance using high density Si anode.
My point is Toyota is one possibility for mainstream sales growth but there are 3 others in production ramp that might be ready sooner. All good.
