If geothermal heat pumps were engineered to be same cost as traditional heat pumps and saved 50% of energy cost, and over 30 years all heat pumps replaced (assumes life of heat pumps about 30 years) and all conventional heating solutions replaced with heat pumps, how much energy would be saved? Enough to shift development resources from nuclear to optimized heat pump?
Same thought experiment for battery prototypes. Accelerate the development of the top 5 candidates to one winner 5 years sooner with 20% of todays price. Shifting some $ from nuclear.
I wonder if development funds are chasing the optimal mix for end goal of cheaper energy plus less pollution.
