If fossil fuel use for motion goes to zero, about half the pollution is gone. Also security risk of war over oil is reduced and price stability for vehicles fuel is more stable.

As to fossil fuel use to power production there is progress on two fronts. Battery chemistry is evolving to lower cost (less fossil fuel needed) and production methods for Steel etc are trending to shift toward clean energy.

Maybe in 10 to 20 years self driving cars become possible and fewer cars are needed. That of course is not EV specific but will contribute to lower production use of fossil fuel.
