Great memories of using a slide rule. BSEE 1969. However the concepts and links were always more important. Engineering is often + or - 10% ok as you often worked with devices that were manufactured with wide variations. Some cases require precision. Later computer simulations did the math but you had to set the initial conditions and what and where you needed to optimize. Computer Aided design automatically caught mistakes, AI is replacing or improving Design of Experiments (where you build and test devices to optimize a parameter). DOE becomes easier with 3D printers where shape a materials can be “played with”.

Even so thinking about my slide rule (even in its leather case) - happy memories.
