Did you know most commercial trucks drive 50 miles per day (or less). Delivery vans range typically 150 miles. Police cars travel 125 miles a day.
Point is commercial vehicles don’t need long range for a once or trice a year long trip. The predictable needed range for commercial applications is much lower than many EV trucks offer. But no worries, the fleet managers have lot of data on their use case and will order just enough battery capacity to meet their needs and optimize capital, fuel and maintenance cost.
As to consumers, of course some will want to tow a boat several hundred miles. So of course for that use case use gas or diesel. But battery technology has 4X energy density improvements in the works. Likely more use cases will covered with continuous improvements each year for next 50 years
