Bottom line EV are cheaper in fuel cost then hydrogen. Until the cost to produce hydrogen is addressed it will not be viable for consumers. There is lab work attempting to reduce hydrogen production cost just as there are many technologies in the works to reduce the cost of batteries and remove dependence on scarce metals. A spin off from MIT Influit Energy is a good example in prototype phase, recently in mass production LFP batteries good example of steady progress.
