Adding chargers to apartment complex’s is part of the IRA. Note for average driving per year of 15,000 miles, that 37 miles range added per day. For most use cases charging at night and sharing 5 EV per 220 circuit will work. I agree adding chargers is a big investment but it is not impossible to solve. Norway sell only 5% ICE cars today, seems to be working.
Essentially every early EV sold needs an investment in charging resources of about $2k. This investment is good for 50 years.
As to the grid, it is really old, some resources are more than 100 years old. With or without EV the grid needs updating to account for population growth and climate change (increased demand for cooling as average temperatures increase.
