A few counter points.
First gasoline and diesel account for 50% of oil consumed. As society shifts from fossil fuel for vehicles the consumption of oil goes down so less oil profit for Russian and Middle East Terrorists. EV fuel cost is 70% of fossil fuel, even the electric power is partially from coal. Over time the IS will save $566 Billion per year in fuel cost for vehicles.
However I agree battery technology need to improve. Recycling is already recovering 96% of Li. (Redmond Materials) . It should be mandatory for EV batteries to be recycled.
Higher power density should be a national priority. Li Air with 8 times today’s energy density would reduce the amount of Li needed by a factor of 8.
The is a new process for Li that requires 10% of the amount of water. Finish the development of this technology for a big environmental footprint win.
