100% agree. After driving a Tesla 70,000 miles, EV are good enough now. Good enough to be better then gas on all points.
However, consumers love many configurations, so 2, 4, 5, 6, 8 passages, SUV small and big, truck small and big, Van and so on. The investments in new factories by all vendors is massive today and once built out in 2 years or so most consumers will find a configuration that fits them.
This year 3 battery vendors announced a big leap in price performance. CATL 425 miles range, add 250 in 10 minutes. Price was not mentioned but reading between the lines, 257 mile LFP battery price will buy a major upgrade. Two Si valley firms have started pilot production of batteries with 2X the energy density and lower cost then the best on the market. What to do with these batteries? Offer a half the cost of the more than ok batteries of today’s $40,000 EV in a $25,000 EV or offer the same price EV at $40,000 but with 800 mile range? Offer both let the consumers figure it out.
